FACTORY VISIT
Some of our Management team have recently visited the Cladding Production factory in Germany and were given an extensive tour of the production lines of the various products.
All of the products reach well in excess of the High European Control Standards for heat and cold weather situations. This makes our cladding systems possibly some of the best which are installed throughout the United Kingdom, as they give extensive protection values in various climate conditions.
Equally the roofing products we use are tested to very high standards and can withstand all that the British weather has to thrown at them.
We work with these high quality products from the North of Scotland to the South of England; from the West of Wales to the most easterly parts of England; thus covering the whole of the British Isles.
VENTILATION & INSULATION
Ventilation is provided to ensure that the systems do not sweat and thus help alleviate damp problems. We also can add integrated Insulation into most of our cladding systems to ensure that we give the best GREEN profile to the properties which we renovate.
This year has seen us renovating a good number of properties for a Housing Association, with external cladding in our STONEBLOCK system and insulating these homes to bring them up to Modern Thermal standards. These homes were originally clad in a very frail cladding system, which regularly was dislodged by not only wind effect, but by incorrect fixing to the building. A VARIETY OF LOCAL AUTHORITIES AND HOUSING ASSOCIATIONS used this frail product some years ago and we are well aware of the continuing problems which will occur.
Our BRICK effect cladding has also been extemely popular. This product comes from the same factory as our Stoneblock and Stonechip products and is equally tested to the same exacting standards.
WEIGHT PROBLEMS
During the year our LIGHTWEIGHT ROOFING materials have been used throughout the UK and we have again been requested by customers to remove wrongly installed heavy clay tiles from roofs. BISF and BLACKBURN homes should not have heavy clay tiles used for re-roofing! On one home the customer advised that they could hear serious creaking in the home where a solid clay tile roof had been used instead of the correct lightweight tiles. On examination we found that the roof had indeed "sunk" in several places but with a care we corrected the problem and now with a new lightweight tile roof the property has been renovated to the delighted of our customer.
HEALTH AND SAFETY RISKS
We have noted in a number of areas of the country Contractors arriving to perform works to BISF properties who do not use Scaffolding nor even the correct affixing methods for the materials they are using. We have seen these contractors simply working from ladders or from flimsy tower scaffolding when performing roofing works. We have noted Companies cladding housing is frail pvc claddings, which ultimately will dislodge in wind and will ultimately need replacing.....this was the case as outlined above with the Housing Association for whom we work.
Customers of course see these options as cheaper but ultimately, as we have experienced both with the Housing Association and with private customers, such claddings need to be replaced with quality materials as the poor quality materials ultimately fail, thus costing the customer further expense to rectify their home.
